Hooking fish is only part of any well enjoyed angling experience. Several raptors nests overlook the river bank including Bald Eagles, Osprey, and various hawks, falcons, and owls. Anglers often find a hungry eagle or osprey watching a hooked and fighting fish. Many guests enjoy the close range photo opportunities. There are 3 nest sites along the river for Bald Eagles.
Quietly moving in on a drinking moose is always an enjoyable experience. Newfoundland is reputed to have one of the highest densities of moose in the world.
Areas that look like large flat featureless expanses upon closer wading reveal channels, underwater boulders, defined pools, and pockets. Structure abounds. The river has a variety of structures ranging from water falls, to ledges, to vast wading shoals, to canyons covering every type of river water available.
Don't forget your camera! Backing required!
Easy wading can be found throughout virtually all of the river. The single handed fly rod angler will find this a joy when searching for back casting space. Virtually all of the river has excellent fly fishing water. For those whom prefer a comfortable boat to fish from or wish to explore vast stretches of water quickly this can be provided even in shallow water. Carrying a large pack loaded with gear is not easily done while wading. Similarly, transporting deluxe shore lunch picnic supplies into remote areas is a chore best left to a boat.
Walking, wading, and casting to fresh silver fall salmon. Fall boat fishing.
With an average of nearly a 1000 fish a day swimming up river your odds of connecting are nearly assured! In the fall we often find only our guests as anglers on 80 km of river stuffed with fish.
Anglers are allowed to release 4 fish a day. Retention of fish is limited to two a day. A beautiful morning on the Exploits River, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Many of our guests enjoy dry fly fishing for salmon. The size of this river really gives the fish space to move around and get one's backing wet!
Tube tied dry flies are our favourite for salmon and trout fishing. Late July can supply landing ratios of 50% grilse and 50% small salmon of 7-15 pounds!
Vast stretches of river can be quickly travelled in our unique Newfoundland designed 25 foot long Gander Bay River Boats engineered from fibreglass. Sneaking away to secret spots can provide a few tight lines in undisturbed pools.

Whether its wading shoals, boat fishing, or fishing classic rapids, anglers will find what their hearts desire.
