This guides mantra...to lose a big salmon 50% of the time use a wet fly....to land one use a dry fly. Bomber Basics...

Some video to help you through the long winter nights....

Tube flies are the way forward for fishing large and medium sized dry flies.
The fuzzy dry fly shakes free during the fight but the hook stays in the fish!
One can also use smaller length hooks with deep gaps that will not pry free as often as long shank hooks.
One can learn more about these flies and purchase them from www.Fishmadman.com

How to tie on tube dry flies....

Many people regard atlantic salmon fly fishing as the ultimate in fresh water fly fishing. Newfoundland contains 60% of all North American Atlantic salmon rivers, the highest atlantic salmon densities in North America, the highest density of atlantic salmon rivers globally, and premium catch rates on pristine rivers. With a fact sheet of this quality there is little wonder why it is a Mecca for atlantic salmon anglers globally. Economically priced trips, easy access, and western world comforts add to the obvious choice for the traveling angler.

We offer over 30 rivers from the Long Range Mountains of central western Newfoundland. These unspoiled rivers and streams abound with atlantic salmon and all have strong runs of sea run brook trout eager for a fly or nymph. Guests fly to either of the small towns of Deer Lake or Stephenville, Newfoundland and are met at the airport for the short 30 minute ride to our base of operations. From this central location we fish the famous Humber River and can travel to other nearby locations on occasion so as not to miss a recent fly hatch, or salmon run. This area is home of the provinces best grilse and trophy river - the Humber River - based on numbers, density and size of atlantic salmon available (Dept. Fisheries and Ocean Statistics and local common knowledge). This mountainous terrain is streaked with cold clear rivers and provide both beautiful scenery and exciting challenge to the fisherman. Join us this season and experience atlantic salmon fishing at its finest.

Note the various aerial mends being done...a must for dry fly fishing. Note the tuck cast - Learning to do this cast is critical to adding "sound" to your presentations. The sound of a heavy bug or "meal" landing with a bang on the water can add to your success with stubborn or half committing fish and well as those hiding behind a rock or ledge. Often a salmon has a limited view of the surface through what is known as Snell's Window so adding sound to your presentation will intice it to look for your fly.

On The Fly Productions - "Casts that Catch Fish"

Learning to do these two casts is critical to any Atlantic salmon dry fly fishing success. A must have for any dry fly Atlantic salmon fishing experience.
Learning to do this cast (aka the "turbo spey cast" or "jump roll with a haul") is critical to adding distance to your presentations in the tight conditions found on our small rivers with bushes and banks. A must have for any wet or dry fly Atlantic salmon fishing experience.
